Muscles and bones and muscles and bones. Must learn all the things!!!!! I’m nervous about my personal trainer written exam for next week. Pretty nervous indeed. But heck, all I can do is study my butt off. This morning I had a treadmill date with my friend Dani. She’s been through the certification process so she was easing my anxiety about the exam. I’m feeling a bit better now.
Speaking of gym dates, it is so good for accountability to schedule workouts with friends. On Monday I went to a Body Flow class by myself but aside that I’m all scheduled up. Working out with someone else always pushes me to do more than I would if I was alone. Today Dani and I walked over 5k on the treadmill and just chatted away. LOVED it
.
Somehow bananas came up in the conversation today. We both professed our love for nanners.
At least once a week I meet someone that isn’t eating bananas anymore. Yeah yeah yeah I get that fruit has sugar in it etc etc. But people c’mon. It’s not a chocolate bar. Can we put things into perspective here. Here – here’s a list of all the awesome things bananas do (care of Food Matters).
Bananas are one of my go to foods. I eat about two bananas a day. There’s smoothies and protein pancakes and just chomping down on one straight from the peel.
Am I making sense here / getting this across? Seriously, let’s not cut “real” food out of our diet. Let’s concentrate on cutting processed food from our diet. Let me spin off of Michael Pollan’s advice – EAT REAL FOOD, NOT TOO MUCH. That’s it. Bananas, bananas, bananas. (The only problem I have with bananas is that I can’t grow them myself).
Cause let me tell you something, if I’m not filling my hungry gut with someone as simple as a banana, I’ll grab me some chips.
Okay banana rant over.

I also love bananas! I watched a great eppisode of the nature of things with David Suzuki last week called fruit hunters. You should watch it. Part 2 is all about bananas.
I love bananas!! The hardest part for me is the texture. BUT I leeeeerrrrrrrv adding them to smoothies if I’m just not in the mood to try and deal with the texture.
Good luck with your exam next week!
I like the idea of making fitness dates! How do you like body pump? I think my gym offers it but I’ve never been to any of their classes.
PS how’s the running going?
AGREED! I love bananas. I honestly can give up so many things, but bananas could never be one of them – they are simple essential! Good Luck on your exam this week, I am sure you’ll rock it!
That is basically ideal advice – yes, sugar probably isn’t great for you and you should at least attempt to limit added sugars. But bananas and other fruits definitely do not fall into that category.
LOL. Love it! As a dietitian, you would not believe how many people come in and ask, “So I’ve heard bananas are no good. And neither are carrots, right?”
(But you can bet they’re still eating desserts.)
It does make me laugh when people avoid fruit for the sugar – not quite the same reaction in the body as the processed junk.
I love your banana rant and I 100% agree with it.
People need to stop complicating the simple act of fueling their bodies.
A natural piece of fruit is WAY better than some weird and fake processed diet food. Plus bananas are filling, portable and delicious! Win-win-win.
“Cause let me tell you something, if I’m not filling my hungry gut with someone as simple as a banana, I’ll grab me some chips.”
Someone?? I’m smarter than a banana, don’t eat me!
I love bananas. I eat at least 1 on a daily basis. What PT cert are you getting? I’ve been slowly studying for the NASM PT cert..
Uhhhhhhh-greed
Love bananas. My go-to pre-workout snack! Also an east breakfast or snack to travel with! Nature’s packaging works well
Totally agree! One of the reasons I hated the slow carb diet was that fruit wasn’t allowed because it had “sugar” in it. Um, eating some strawberries is healthier than a chocolate candy bar.
As for bananas specifically…I love them and would like to eat them more often however they don’t jive well with my body. I eat a banana as a snack I’m a starving mess within an hour. I’m guessing it’s the sugars in it? But if I eat banana on a piece of toast with peanut butter, it fills me up longer.
I couldn’t agree more with your post! Fruit is good for us in so many ways and I hate when people knock it for the sugar content. It’s real food, and good food!
