It’s Like A Running Shoe Trailer

Morgan “bites off more than she can chew” Shuker reporting for duty ;)

If you can believe it, I was actually off of school and work last week.  I attended my Personal Trainer certification in class programming.  They were long days and lots of learning.  So many body parts!!!

I’ve had so many great things to post this month that never got up.  When I’m going through my days I kind of write and rewrite blog post ideas in my head.  Unfortunately many of these didn’t make it.  At the beginning of the month I met Gretchen Rubin, it was awesome.  She liked my braid.  Last week I had this hilarious blog post called “Double Dave Leitch Double Cheese.”  It was a heroic tale of the one time Brad beat me at Jeopardy.  We had ordered pizza, Brad wanted double cheese on his.  That kind of pushed him over the edge, he was in a total food coma.  However, as we flicked on Jeopardy to square off (everything’s a competition in our house), we noticed a contestant named Dave Leitch.  That happens to be Brad’s legal name.  Magically, like Will Ferrel in Old School, Brad channeled the power of double Dave Leitch and double cheese to win?!?!?  Dave Leitch the contestant also won.

Moving on, last week I spoke at the Running Room about injury prevention.

Last time I was there I spoke more about managing injuries: the emotional side, dealing with your medical professionals team, taking precautions.  This time, since I’m thiiiiiiis close to being PT certified I taught the group some dynamic stretches, posture lessons, and strength exercises for injury prevention.

No trip to the Running Room is complete without a new pair of shoes.

Last time I grabbed a new pair of Nike Frees but I haven’t been loving them for running.  This time I got the Saucony ProGrid Ride 5.  This is like a movie trailer, because I haven’t worn them yet so therefore can’t give you  the full run down.  Stay tuned.  I hope I didn’t tell you all of the funny parts in the trailer.

What do you look for in a running shoe?

Jeopardy, who wins at your house?

I should be embarrassed—but Im not.
    I look for flashy color.
    PINK PURPLE ORANGE flashy.

  2. Like Miz, I look at the color first, because honestly, that’s what catches my eye! I’m a Saucony girl through and through – so once I’m not blinded by the flashy color, I go for a 0mm, 4mm or 8mm drop typically, lightweight, minimalist shoe. And my husband kicks my butt at Jeopardy :(

    • Morgan @ Life After Bagels says:

mine are an 8mm … the Frees were a 5.0 (I think, I’m not so good with that stuff) but I don’t think I was ready for that yet

I loooooove Saucony. They’re my go-to shoe! I won’t lie – I used to focus on colour. Then when I started running seriously I realized just what a big difference the right shoe makes. Now I go to a local running store called Tri & Run when I need a new pair. They get you up on the treadmill, ask you a tonne of questions and then help you pick the right pair for your body and running style. I’m currently rockin’ some Saucony Omni 11′s

  4. I love me some fluorescent running shoes! I have a pair of radiant-orange New Balances, but they are a half a size too small so my toenails are a little gross looking now. lol So I guess at this point, I just look for shoes that fit.
Also, I am the dominate force when it comes to Jeopardy! against my wife. She beats me in everything else lol.

  5. Bronwyn says:

Usually I wait for the feeling of total comfort. I always just “know” when I’ve got the right show (probably because I’ve been buying running shoes at a serious level for 10+ years).
LOVE how bright yours are! I want some hot pink shoes.

  6. i love love love the treat of buying new running shoes as it isn’t something i do often as it can become a very expensive habit. i also love very bright colours and have a pair of neon pink and orange, as well as a pair of electric blue. for some reason, i think they make me run faster and i’m not going to argue.

as for jeopardy – my dad. he’s a genius. actually.

  7. Ali says:

Those shoes are so pretty! I just picked up a pair of purple/green/pink Asics and love them!

  8. G says:

Beautiful shoes!! I adore Saucony :)

  9. I LOVE those shoes! I learned the hard way that color has to come after function, but was thrilled that my form had improved and I could pick out a neutral pair.

I went outside of the norm & picked up the blue/citron and have worn them my last three halfs {and PR’d each time!} I may need to come back to the pink pair because the blue are super fun but don’t match too much of my running gear Priorities, right?

  10. I’m a Saucony girl myself! :) I look for a shoe that fits my running gait, has a wide toe-box, and narrower heel. Then I look for the fun, fashion side last. :)

  11. WWWWWEEEEEEE New shoes. I bet the girl who hooked you up with that sweet gig and discount at the Running Room is super cool… I mean probably…

    • Morgan @ Life After Bagels says:

yeah she’s alright … she might also be giving away free shoes on her blog ***HINT HINT TO ANYONE READING THIS, CLICK ON KRYSTEN’S BLOG ABOVE^^^^^

  12. I love Saucony shoes! They’re my favorite!

  13. Laraine Mulch says:

Cushioning shoes are shoes that have little to no lateral support. These shoes are good for runners who do not need this support, and have neutral feet. Generally this type of shoe will be for the runner with a high arch. Instances where this type of shoe is not right is in a case where you are a pronator or an overpronator.*
