Let’s Talk Scheduling

Today is the last day of vacation.  I’m starting the day with some work and a meeting :P .  It’s true that freelancers never really get a day off.  In fact I’m hoping to get a new phone for my birthday this month so that I can work even BETTER on the road or at the cottage, etc.  (I also want new running shoes and yoga pants if we’re going there ;) )

Tomorrow my life gets thrown back into homework mode.  The inevitable “back to school.”  I’ve been obsessing about my new schedule.  In fact I just changed my classes again.

This semester’s classes are:

  • International Business
  • Training and Development
  • Management and Leadership Skills
  • Applied Marketing Management

I just switched my Training and Development class to an online course to get out of doing a group project.  Let’s be honest, no one likes group projects.  It honestly kills me to put the fate of my grade in other students’ hands.  Plus I have a group project in my Marketing class, and I have no course outline yet for International Business or Management and Leadership Skills.  I fear they may have group projects too.  Ahhhhhhh!!!!!!!

The other reason I switched it is to free up my Thursday schedule a bit.  If you recall from my summer semester, I previously crammed as many classes into as few days as possible.  That ended up making me totally miserable.  This semester I was trying to minimize the long days.  The original time slot for my Training class was 8:30am on Thursdays and I have a team meeting that starts at 5:30 every Thursday.  Uh oh … long day alert!!!

So now that my class schedule is all settled (hopefully), it’s time to figure out the rest of my schedule.  I need to allot time for my job on campus, my freelance work, and my study time.  THEN I need to add in fitness, chores, social, and family.

Hmmmm so me and my agenda need to get to brainstorming.

I’m actually considering a digital agenda and lists for the first time ever.  I’m really more of a pen and paper person but I also like the idea having my agenda on the computer.

Tell me about your fall (or September) schedule.  Are you doing anything different this season?  For my fellow students – group projects, thumbs up or thumbs down?  Any recommendations for digital calendars / schedules?

  1. Fun! I honestly miss choosing my courses & schedule.. it’s so much more exciting than the 9-to-5 grind!! This fall I’m continuing to work (how boring) and then also take a continuing education course at Ryerson, so I still kinda feel like I’m going back to school! I agree with you that group projects are are WORST, especially awkward writing projects! I once had to do a group project for an online course where everyone was literally all over the world (group members in South America & Bahamas). It could have been really awesome, but it was just a headache trying to get everyone to skype at the same time, etc. GRR.

Anyway, I would love to see you again soon Morgan! Let’s have another bloggie date?

Life is all about group projects! Bwahahaha, school might seem like that’s where it ends, but you get out into the “real world” and it just continues… you can never escape it. :p But at least at this point my grade isn’t dependent on it.

I’ve been using my phone as a calendar, it’s basically google/gmail calendar. Love it. And it’s actually connected to my gmail, which makes scheduling easy. I mostly chose a digital as I thought the prices of a good agenda were attrocious…. I actually like paper agendas.

  3. You busy girl!! I’m kind of happy that I’m not in school anymore but there are some days that I do miss it. I don’t know what my September looks like yet! I supply teach so I probably won’t start getting calls until mid month. I doubt any teachers will be calling in sick earlier than that! Oh and I hated group projects. HATE. I was always the one doing everything! Hope you have a great day!

  4. I use google calendar for all of my agenda stuff. It is easy and I can link it up on my iphone and ipad and use it on my computer! It is perfect! And you came make things different colors to group them.

I’m big on google calendar and I’ve recently started using http://teuxdeux.com/ It’s been super helpful!

  6. I dont have any classes or projects.. my calendar is filled up with running dates, so I will instead comment on your computer in the photo. I HAVE THE SAME ONE. Maybe, mine is a giant screen 27″ version. They rock, right?

  7. I’ve got to figure out how to do this too! I’m starting school again on Monday, and I have to figure out to fit in school/blogging/blog reading/work outs/foodprep/everything else I like to do.
