Weigh In #2 – Hmmm This Is Getting Harder

First of all, can I just say that Brad continues to be awesome and totally take care of all the household stuff + feed me.  He really stepped up his game, I suppose he’s trying to one up me.  I now feel like I feed him garbage every other time of the year.

He combed through vegetarian recipes yesterday, then made a list, hit the grocery store, and THEN came home and made me this delicious pasta with tomatoes.

Second, if you were wondering how my Finance exam went on Friday … don’t ask.  I’ll post my grades when I get them, but I don’t think it’s going to be pretty.

Just an FYI – the reason I freak out so much about my grades is that I need to achieve a B or above in all of my classes because it’s an Honours program.

Okay okay I know you want the weight loss results.

Last night I finally got to meet up with Krysten, Robyn, and Jess for a Monday workout.  They met every Monday this summer because they were training for their Warrior Dash (which they finished and had a super time at) and they continue to train on Mondays just because.  Now that school is almost over I was able to go do the upper body part of their workout.  It’s always SO GOOD to train with other people, especially friends as fit as they are.

After our workout I went up to Krysten’s apartment to use her scale.

I lost 1 more pound – down to 127!

The weight loss sure is harder when I’m busy as heck studying for exams.  Yes Brad’s help is definitely making it easier.  But I can’t tell you how hard it is to get to 10,000 steps when I’m spending the entire day in the library and night at my desk at home.  I missed on two days last week.

Although, can I just point out that yesterday I hit more than 17,000 – another record!!!

I’ve been training hard, even hitting the gym at 11pm some nights last week.

Where I’ve really gone astray is the food journal.  In fact I don’t even know where it is.  No wait, I do know where it is, it’s buried somewhere on my desk.  (My desk is SO messy right now that I’ve been using Brad’s desk for the last two weeks.  And last time I posted pictures of my desk you all wrote that it gave you anxiety :P )

As I continue into this whole weight loss plan thing, it’s getting harder.  I just want to chug a few beers and eat an entire bag of Pita Break cripsy pitas (why are they so good).

I finish exams on Friday and I know there are going to be some celebrations this weekend so I’m going to work on eating very healthy all week.  Besides healthy food will keep me awake longer and I have a TONNE of studying left to do.

When you’re really busy how and when do you fit your workouts in?  Food journaling – I’m lacking the motivation, any tips?

  1. Keep on working hard and staying consistent…it will come. When I stopped worrying and stepping on the scale and lifting heavy I had huge results. As for journaling…I have a customized Google Docs journal for all my clients. It’s a super simple format…maybe consider something like that?! Good luck!

I have been gaining weight since strength training and to be honest I think I look much better at 132 than I did at 127 ;) that being said I have no idea what your goals for losing weight are. I definitely have more fat to burn but scale weight is something I don’t worry about anymore; now that I’m active :)

    I think you look GREAT!!!!!

Losing weight is super difficult when you’re busy. Losing another pound is great though! Good job. It’s definitely nice to have a helpful partner. :)

Tips for Food Journalling – I use an app on my iPhone which lets me store meals, so it’s just a click of a button to journal each meal, I usually do this on transit to/from places.

Workouts when busy – early AM always does it for me!

Good luck with your efforts and keep it up!

  5. True story: sometimes the only way I can justify fitting in a decent workout is by sitting on my stationary bike with a text book. That way I’m studying, and working out at the same time. It makes me feel like I’m really getting things done. :)

  6. 17,000! holy moly! That’s awesome.

Honestly, when I’m tired of food journaling, sometimes I just need a break. I didn’t log over the weekend and I know that I ate way more than if I had logged. But, it was a great move mentally and emotionally.

  7. First of all, I think you are doing amazingly well with all that you have going on in your life, be kind to yourself!! It’s all about small steps that you can continue long term building as you go, not going crazy with huge adjustments burning yourself out. Been there.

The notes app saves me for any type of journalling or thoughts, etc, on my iPhone. I’m probably the worst at making sure I fit in a workout when I’m super busy. But even if I get a walk in or doing planks I’m ok with it. The stress of feeling like you have to fit everything in is worse sometimes… when I have more time I do more. It evens out in the end.

  8. 1lb a week, especially for someone who doesn’t have a lot to lose, is very good AND probably indicates that your approach is healthy and sustainable. Good job!!

Have you thought about logging on your phone? (maybe you addressed this already…) An app might make it easier because its accessible…assuming you bring your phone with you of course :)

  9. Progress is progress. Keep moving forward and stay healthy. It will happen when your body is ready.

  10. I have to schedule my workouts. That usually means at the butt crack of dawn (or the dead of night to some people). If I don’t do it then it will get pushed aside because “life” happens.

    Nice progress!

  11. you’re doing great!! 1 pound a week is preferable!

  12. Cognrats on the lb down! and ah I totally get it about fitting in movement. I also feel like I’m sitting around all day reading or working or writing for classes; it’s hard to be active while at a desk! Have you been using your treadmill desk? That thing is AWESOME.

Sometimes if I just have reading, I’ll bring it to the gym and read while moving slowly on the treadmill or bike. Movement is movement!

  13. I use an online food journal – I’m on my computer all the time so it’s easy for me to quickly add entries. I don’t really have an excuse not to!
