I am back from a super duper weekend at the cottage. This was the first time we had a larger group of friends up this year and we had a blast.
I fit my weekend workout in by using a jumbo bottle of water as a weight and lunging and squatting, etc around the cottage while it was raining. Plus, when we’re at the cottage we have a pretty active weekend. I just mapped out how far it is to walk from the cottage to the beach and back and it’s 3.3 km. Then we bob around and swim in the lake for a few hours. Better than lying around on some lawn chairs right?
There’s always lots of walking while we’re there AND we have bikes, so many bikes.
Obviously, the food / drink intake is less than stellar on a cottage weekend. We had tonnes of fruit and veggies and lots of water. But there’s also beer, poutine from the insanely delicious food cart down the street, and potato chips. I’m not going to analyze every calorie I ate over the weekend, but I will say that I snacked FAR less than usual. That’s the goal for August right – do better than before and see what happens.
I don’t have a weigh in for you today since we got back last night and we haven’t gone to the gym yet (that’s where my scale is). But I will definitely be weighing myself before my workout tonight and posting my FIRST WEEK WEIGH IN tomorrow. This whole weight loss task still seems insanely daunting but I’m sticking with it I tell ya!
Right now I’m at the library working. Working at the library is much better for me.
- Air conditioning (this is reason alone to come here!)
- I counted that it takes 58 steps to the rest room here. At home I can walk from my desk to the the bathroom in like 5 steps.
- No kitchen means no mindless snacking. Brad and I had brunch before I came and I am filling up on water until I head home for a late lunch/ snack time.
How do you manage a long weekend trip while on a weight loss plan?

When on a long weekend or vacation, I try not to analyze everything I eat. When out of town, I tend to be more active then in my everyday, office life, so eating a little more won’t bother me!
trying to make my everyday more active too – now THAT’s the hard part!
This is how I try to think of it, too.
95% of the time I eat healthy food and exercise…so all bets are off when I’m on vacation for that other 5%!
I usually plan to be a bit more active and not sacrifice the food. I am rarely succussful at weightloss. HAHA. Probably I over compensate how many calories I burn and reward myself according to the imaginary high number. I have read this is why a lot of woman aren’t successful at losing weight. now that I know that, I no longer look at how many calories machines tell me I burn. when did I start rambling…..oh well. |Totally jealous of your long weekend….I need to win some money and get a cottage. and a pool.
or get a friend with a cottage …. hmmmmmmm WHO DO YOU KNOW THAT HAS A COTTAGE I WONDER????????
let me know when and I will try my hardest to be there riding bikes with you:)
I try not to think about calories or over think food when traveling, especially if it is with friends. I do my best to eat as clean as I can but if I have something out of the normal I just smile and let it go. I feel if I stress about it that makes me feel worse. It is a tough battle.
true stressing does make it worst and I totally stress over tiny decisions like that … but big ones – no sweat!
weird right?!?
I just went through this during our week in Florida. It’s tough. I pretty much followed my vegan diet as usual (packed a lot to be prepared!) and with the exception of a few occasions I did well. While I enjoyed the indulgences tremendously it took a conscious effort not to stress about the indulgence later.
I used to love my days from working at home and venturing out to Starbucks…it helped to ensure I showered in the morning too instead of having a pajama working day
Glad you are sticking to your plan!
one time at a blogger conference one of the panelists told me that pi’s will stunt your creativity so I did this whole thing where I actually got dressed at 7am every morning when my bf did … but that didn’t last long, cause then it was winter, and pi’s until 2pm are a necessity in the winter hahaha
I’m really impressed by your makeshift weights workout at the cottage! I must admit, when I’m at the cottage, the only fitness I squeeze in is playing beer pong and the occasional swim in the lake hahah!
Love your attitude of simply doing better than before! Steps (ha-ha) in the right direction. I’m far more productive in a Library setting. Figuring I dragged myself out there, may as well be productive! lol
Long weekend trips can be tough. Mostly, as long as I’m kept busy (such as site seeing, walking around a new city, hanging out and chatting with whoever I’m visiting), I’m happy because I’m not sitting around snacking, which I tend to do more at home, so even if the food choices aren’t optimal, I’m not overdoing it. Sounds like you did well on the snacking and staying active!
I’m going camping on Monday and I’m worried about that same thing!
I’ll just make sure to bring a lot of healthy snacks and try to limit the amount of bacon I eat with breakfast.
