Good Morning Y’all

Morning, middle of the night … it’s all semantics.

It’s almost 4am and I haven’t been to sleep yet gosh darn it.  I officially finished my last class for the summer last night at 10pm.  What a RELIEF to be done night classes.

Unfortunately my insomnia is probably a result of starting to stress about final exams and my late night workout.  I spent the day at my desk studying like a crazy lady so I had to hit the gym up after class.  I didn’t get there until 10:45pm.

Also, I’m still figuring out my new Magnum supplements and I think I took the pre-workout supplement that has stimulants in it.

But I’ve been super productive with that last few hours.  I started with doing tomorrow’s scheduled studying (cue applause please :P ).  Next I answered a crap load of emails.  Now I’m blogging.  I have a sneaky suspicion I’ll be sleeping in tomorrow … today … whatever.

Ooh oooooh – big news alert!!  I ran 10 minutes yesterday without pain.  I wasn’t actually supposed to include running in my training plans this week.  My doctor told me to just do strength training and we’d continue with our running drills next week.  (Ah hope he’s not reading!)  But I had to get some more steps into my day and I was tight on time.

Eating is still going great!  This was a totally delicious lunch.  I usually dip my cucumbers in hummus or slice them in salads but instead I just sprinkled a bit of salt and pepper on em.

It was a small lunch because I had three snacks after breakfast.  I don’t officially subscribe to the whole “6 small meals” plan but it happens often when I’m studying all day.

Do you ever work out at night?  How does that affect how you sleep?

For those of you in physical therapy / are rehabilitating an injury do you ever veer off your doctor’s training plan?

  1. Working out late at night definitely makes my night short on sleep. Even it’s something easy.

    I’m horrible about following Dr.’s orders! ;)

My workouts will typically end no later than 715pm and I don’t have any issues going to bed as a result.

I love cucumber slices with salt, pepper and white vinegar! Childhood fave :)

Omg I wrote something on this here: http://missfitbritt.blogspot.com/2012/07/i-need-some-sleep.html. I deal with the SAME thing. I can never sleep! :( Although, in the past few days I have kind of come up with a routine of sorts to help make it easier. I usually run off all technology 30 minutes before bed, drink chamomile tea with my evening snack and decompress. Then I can fall asleep but some nights it’s not that easy. :/ I hope you get some!

I am veering off my plan right now by doing insanity. now I have anew injury, but it was unforeseen. I actually waited until I was into my third week to tell him what I was up to. sometimes I just need to not be told what I ‘can’t’ do or I will always tell myself that and never get stronger. Just don’t ove rdo it:)

  5. Uh, oh…didn’t realize you were injured. I’m battling some shin stress over here too… I try to be good about the amount of time away from running, but always ramp back up too quickly. Need to work on that!
I hate insomnia- but like you, I can get so much done at night! At least you were productive. Hope you’re still sleeping!

Working out too late at night does cause some insomnia for me, but worse is that I don’t usually do anything, but just lie in bed and be cranky about it. At least you were productive…

  7. Bronwyn says:

I can’t work out too late at night, I’m usually too tired. Sometimes it’ll wake me up, but sometimes it just helps me fall asleep (exercising is my meditation/therapy so it can help me focus).

  8. I’m one of those fortunate folks that doesn’t have any trouble with sleeping. I personally prefer morning workouts, though, as it makes my whole day feel more productive!

  9. Ugh, cannot work out at night at all.

One – the motivation to do so is non-existent. I just want to watch tv until I start to pass out.

Two – if I actually do fit in a late-night workout. I will not be sleeping for at least3-4 hours afterwards. My body’s just too excited or something!

  10. My running club used to do interval workouts at night and I could never sleep afterward. I finally switched to doing them on my own in the mornings. Plus I have no motivation to work out at night. I want to come home from work, pour a glass of wine and relax :-)

That is dedication – going to the gym at 10:45! Good for you. I always find it’s a great stress-release though. I find cardio energizes me vs. strength training will usually tire me out! Hot yoga just puts me to sleep! Haha

I’ve just been catching up on your recent posts and I have to say that I am encouraged by your honesty and willingness to put everything out there! I don’t have a lot of weight to lose, but have been completely sidetracked with working out everyday… I recently did a post to help motivate me to get back to getting it in before work in the mornings.

This past week it has been a huge success and I realized how much I missed starting my day that way! I don’t think I could ever workout at night, I’d be too revved up to get to sleep! I find that I need the rest in the evenings and prep for the next day.
