On Tuesdays I’m at school all stinkin’ day so I have to pack quite a bit of food. I have a canvas bag full of lunch, dinner, and snacks.
Yesterday I ventured away from my usual easy sandwich and made this wonderful cold salad.
In the tupperware:
- quinoa
- green onion
- corn
- grated zucchini
- cucumber
- hummus
- avocado
- lemon juice
- cayenne pepper
Delicious
Here’s the thing about Tuesdays. I can’t stand them. Nothing against the day that starts with Tue and ends with sday. On Tuesdays I have school from 10am to 10pm. It’s horrible, really it is.
For the past five semesters I’ve taken the “jam all your classes into as few days as possible” approach to my schedule. Having three days off a week seems like a pretty gosh darn good idea doesn’t it? Probably for some, but not for me. There’s about a billion reasons I hate being at school for that many hours in a day. Brad had to hear them all last night, I’ll spare you.
For my fall semester I have taken a whole new approach to my schedule. I’m doing a one class a day type of approach. Yes it takes an hour or more to get to campus, but I’ve gotten really good at studying on the subway and bus.
I have a feeling this is going to un-miserable myself. Why didn’t I think of this sooner? Why have I suffered through so many semesters of long days?
One more example of un-miserabling myself: rain boots. Wet feet make me a rage-aholic. Since I have to walk to the subway and stand in line to get the bus home, my feet were always soaked when it rained. I would sit in class with wet feet (hmmmm is this why I have no friends at school?) and just stew in fury. I splurged on a pair of really good rain boots last spring and my feet have never been happier. One of the best decisions I’ve ever made! Let’s hope my new school schedule works out the same way.
Do you have anything that makes you as miserable as my long days or wet feet? Something more than an annoyance, something that is just a bee in your bonnet all day? So what are you going to do about it?

your wet feet are my COLD WET FROM SNOW FEET
I guess I am stuck in texas.
ummmm you’d get used to the snow … hahaha
I love to un-miserable myself with a dinner at a favourite restaurant with a friend! Last night I saw a play and dug into a delish dinner at Live – made my day!
Btw that salad looks so frickin good
mmmm no one could be miserable at Live!
love your new approach! and that salad looks AMAZING!
Love that salad (minus the corn)! That might have to come to work with me later this week
Driving makes me miserable- I actively dread it!- so I always leave with extra time and try to avert my road rage by intentionally leaving extra following space and taking back roads that are less likely to be crowded. I’ve also started taking public transit to work, which helps keep my stress levels way down.
I changed my schedule up for next semester too. It’s always been Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday when I have my classes, because I figured it’s best to get them over with. But I changed the days up a bit – I think maybe its Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday? That way I don’t have to cook all weekend long to make sure I have enough to eat. I can actually relax a little on Sunday nights. Maybe then I’ll be a bit less crazy.
I’m right there with you when it comes to HATING wet feet! I love my rain boots. I’m thinking of putting my Weasel in day care when I do my long runs as a way to UN-MISERABLE myself. I love her to death, but the constant stopping to get snacks/toys/etc and potty breaks are really putting me in a running slump.
Oh man, I have a bunch of friends that try to fit all of their classes into two days and I just have no idea how they can pull it off! I LOVE my rainboots, but one way I un-miserable is timing my music right to my arrival. I like to have a really great song finish right when I get to where I’m going. Is that freaky?
OMG I can’t imagine being in class for that many hours in a day! You are a trooper but I like your new approach. I feel the same about wet feet and rain boots were one of the best investments I’ve made in the past year.
Wet feet = lame.
When it comes to my class schedule, I try to plan it so that I get one day off a week. That way, I’m never at school for any crazy long amount of time (10 am to 10 pm is crazy, I would not be able to handle that!) but I still get 3 day weekends. Worked for me throughout my entire undergrad, hopefully the plan works for grad school in September too.
