I forgot to mention it, but on Monday I had the MOST intense physical therapy session.  I’ve been to treatment for various injuries over the years but none of them have been like this.

My treatment appointments are usually done in three parts:

  • soft tissue massage (this is to improve my range of motion)
  • lessons in body positioning (this usually involves the skeleton hehehe)
  • workout

I write workout and not exercises because this is basically like having a personal trainer kick your ass.  We focus on lower body with strengthening exercises that are specific to the muscles that I need to develop.

Monday’s workout was SO HARD that I was collapsing during one exercise in the last set.  I was drenched in sweat.  Obviously my doctor knew he had really put me through the ringer because he high fived me three times before I left.  It still hurts today :P

I get asked all the time how much progress I’m seeing.  Honestly, I can’t even tell you how pleased I am with the results.  I’ve experienced a huge reduction in pain.  I’m stronger than I have ever been, and I’ve even started to see definition in my leg muscles.

Speaking of sweaty I’m heading to hot pilates for the first time.  The only pilates I’ve ever done is the beginner’s workout from Blogilates.

FYI Toronto friends – Moksha Yoga St Clair West is offering free classes all week this week.

Brad went to hot yoga last night.  He loves hot yoga and has done it a tonne over the last five years.  However he hadn’t been in about six months and it was so hot yesterday.  When he got home last night he looked like burning, sweating death.

At first he told me that he spent a good amount of time in savasana.  Eventually it came out that he wasn’t lying nicely in corpse pose but instead rubbing his face and rolling around gasping for breath.

I asked him if he wanted to guest post this morning about hot yoga but apparently this morning he was still too hot.

Have you tried hot yoga?  What about hot outdoor workouts – do you do them or stay inside for your session?

  2. I have not tried hot yoga yet, but plan to! I’m impressed with your pt- I’ve only gone once (for about 6 weeks for my knee several years ago)- but it was not very challenging, I don’t think I was every sweating by the end!

my family doctor specifically referred me to a clinic that specializes in athletes, I’m very lucky

  3. Love hot yoga! It’s supposed to be 95 here today so if I pulled my mat outside I think it would be the equivalent, right? ;)

    • Morgan @ Life After Bagels says:

ummm I can’t say since I don’t really know what 95 is … but I hear it’s hot haha … I’m horrible at translating Farenheit to Celsius

  4. Gillian says:

Hot yoga makes me feel god like but also makes me want to die. My last experience was so traumatizing I haven’t gone back since!

Mind you – every yoga class in this weather feels like hot yoga lately :)

    • Morgan @ Life After Bagels says:

oh MAN! Gillian your comment makes me feel like the heat is a cartoon character and he was terrorizing you during the class or something :P

  5. Carissa says:

I tried hot yoga and it actually made me feel worse…on 3 occasions. I have 2 discs out in my neck and they just didn’t like the movements I guess. I do have physical therapy and while mine is less intense it helps a lot!

    • Morgan @ Life After Bagels says:

yeah my joint problems don’t really like hot yoga either … although my Dr says I can try it again now … I might, but same as you it used to make my pain far worse

  6. Minerva says:

I love hot yoga! Luckily my studio is on my block because I come out looking like I was dunked in a pool and can make a quick b-line for my shower.

    • Morgan @ Life After Bagels says:

oh that is lucky … my boyfriend’s old studio was right beside our friend Claire’s house – she was lucky too!

  7. Sue says:

I haven’t tried hot yoga, yet. It’s not that popular around here, I think. Our Zumba classes are always very hot and sweaty, does that count? Usually, the gyms in my area don’t have air conditioning, so every single workout in the past two weeks has been HOT! I nearly collapsed on the treadmill last night.

  8. Hot Pilates?!?! What??? Why have I never heard of this! Jealous!
