Last night’s dinner was a definite victory for Brad. I think I’ve mentioned it before that he wants to eat most meals in a crust. He thinks shepherd’s pie is a fraud because it doesn’t come in a crust. Whenever we have frittata he wishes it was in a crust, etc, etc etc.
On Sunday night I was grabbing a forgotten item from the grocery store and saw a quiche on quick sale (aka it expires in a day or two so it’s 50% off).
Well, I’m no fan of meals in a crust. I don’t think pastries of any kind should make up a meal, they’re for dessert. And pre-made meals from the grocery store break. the. bank. But since I’m the nicest gal in the world (when things are on sale) I grabbed this broccoli and cheddar quiche for him.
He appreciated it. I didn’t exactly complain. (Maybe I’ll throw tonight’s stew in a crust
)
This morning we were back to early morning workouts. Today was the Nike Training Club app one hand edition. My substitutions:
- jumping jacks instead of mountain climbers
- planks on elbows instead of pushups
- calf raises instead of shoulder press
- hundreds instead of deadlifts
Yes it was leg and ab heavy.
It was also water heavy. Between the 30 minute app workout and 20 minutes on the treadmill afterwards I went through THREE bottles of water.
Dehydration ain’t no joke friends.
I’ve been grabbing coffee over tea, rushing in the morning and skipping my lemon water, we had wine with dinner on Saturday and Sunday. Before I knew it my throat was parched, my lips were extremely dry, and I was feeling incredibly sluggish.
This morning Brad kept trying to get me to hurry to get to the gym. ”Look alive” he kept saying to me. ”I’m not alive!” I wasn’t tired this morning, I had a good sleep. But my extreme thirst totally limited my workout.
I couldn’t give myself the butt kicking that I normally enjoy during the NTC app workouts, and it wasn’t just because of the modifications.
There are a bunch of ways you can limit yourself from preforming your best:
- being dehydrated
- not sleeping enough
- eating junky foods (ie anything that’s not “clean” food and yeah I do classify quiche as junky hahaha)
- eating foods that you are sensitive to (some of mine are wine, coffee, cheese, dairy)
What are some other ways that you limit yourself? What is holding you back from performing your best?

i would say it’s usually a mental thing holding me back more than physical, but i’m working on it!!
quiche is probably my favorite meal on earth, kinda crazy
favourite ever? wow!
do you ever make it yourself?
Yup and i make it crustless because like you I don’t need it and will even not eat the crust when I get it elsewhere.
i started eating in on our honeymoon in switzerland so I think that maybe it just has that emotional connection for me
I was super thirsty during my workout this morning too. I went through way more water than usual. I blame the wine I had last night.
My issue as far as limiting myself is completely 100% all in my head. I like to get in my own way a lot. That’s exactly why I got all nerdy and printed out quotes from pinterest and plastered them all over my house.
that’s what pinterest is for … isn’t it?
All of those will get me too if I’m not careful, especially dehydration! I always feel so sick during a workout if Im not hydrated well.
yeah sick, me too … like a little queasy right?
quiche and frittatas should be made without crust! Also, I don’t like crust. I eat the insides of pie and not the gross crust.
okay there’s no need to go THAT far … I actually love crust, I just believe it should be left to the dessert portion of my meal … also Brad wrote that you can’t comment on my blog anymore because of your crust aversion
I am SO bad at drinking water! I constantly tell myself I need more, but I just can’t seem to get enough!
Amanda and Dre are no longer allowed to write to Morgan at life after bagels…all this talk of no crust ….is this world going mad?!
I’m guilty of coffee over-consumption. I know that I feel best when I limit myself to one espresso, first thing in the morning. When I succumb to the mid-day siren song of my cappuccino maker, my energy is gone by dinner time and I crave something sweet and starchy for dessert.
)
Always makes me feel sluggish for the next day’s workout (as well as soft around the middle
Great reminder! Reading this I took a big gulp of my water. It’s sitting on my desk at work, right in front of me, yet I FORGET to drink it. I don’t know why it’s so hard!
I make an entire dessert just of crust with no filling, just with sugar and cinnamon on it, so Brad can’t disown my responses. ;P crust gets gross when things go in it!
without anythings its yummy pastry
