Yesterday was Family Day in Ontario (and some other provinces too) so our Goodlife gym was only open until 4:00. We got to the gym just before 3:00 so we knew it was going to be a quick workout.
(Sidenote: if a gym, or store, or whatever closes at a certain time, leave there by 10 minutes to closing. Don’t be that jerk that’s just going to the change room at 4:01, ESPECIALLY on a holiday.)
Moving on. Brad had downloaded the Nike Training Club app on his phone a few weeks ago but we hadn’t tried it. Our friend Claire uses it to workout at home, but you can use it at the gym too. Yesterday we tried it out for the first time.
You can target different areas and body parts or do a whole body workout. We picked a full body 30 minute workout. Brad chose the advanced mode. Okay this thing kicked our butt. It was like 30 minutes of the most extreme bootcamp and yes we are HURTING today. Owwwwwwwww, owweeeeeeeeeeeee, owe owe owe.
Let me tell you what we like about the app:
- has a video of all of the moves (not just a picture) so you can see how to properly do each exercise
- it counts down and tells you when to switch sides or switch to the next move
- it gives you motivational pushes “do it,” and posture checks “keep your back flat”
I think you can also set the music but we didn’t do that.
We’ll let you know when we do it again.
For dinner last night I was happy to throw together some leftover brown rice and tofu and pair it with a spinach and carrot salad.
Are there any fitness apps or programs you’ve tried lately?

LOVE this app! There are so many great workouts on it. So worth the money. I need to RSS your site. Love the #Fitfluential community. Keep up the awesome, Morgan!
I love the Nike app on my iphone even though I only did it once…
Its a challenge and love not knowing what will be next in the routine. I also used the music – have to figure the playlist out
#fitfluential
hmmm maybe we’ll try to hook the playlist up soon
OMG did I tell you that I use NTC? It’s my main workout source now and the workouts are awesome. I’ve logged about 800 minutes so far. Everyone should use this!
WHAT no you didn’t tell me
I love the NTC app. I’ve tried 3 workouts and love it! I just hate working out holding my iPhone. I need to get an arm band for it!
we just left it on the floor and turned up the volume … since there was no music we figured it was okay
but then again maybe we were super annoying
I’ve downloaded the Nike app and played around with it but haven’t actually used it yet (for SHAME) but it looks awesome. I’m looking froward to spring when I’ll have more room (which is to say, when my yard isn’t covered in ice because my apartment’s too small) to actually give it a try.
I also use RunKeeper right now. It’s been great while I’m training for my 10k :-S
wait, you’re training for a 10k ?!?!? how did I miss that
Oh yes.
Madness? Oh yes.
I’m working on a post about it right now!
I want to try that app so badly but I don’t think Androids have it. Or at least I couldn’t find it!
oh no I don’t think they do have it
Yet another reason for me to get an iphone. I really, really want one, even though I don’t like touch screens. I feel like I can get past that.
Also, we dont get Family Day here (until next year supposedly) and I think thats so unfair. Especially when you remember that I dont get that reading break either.
I just downloaded this App today! I can’t wait to try it! Thanks for sharing
