This morning it felt like I was waking up after a bad dream.
Last night it took only eight minutes to declare the new Mayor of Toronto. In my eyes, Torontonians just voted in the worst possible choice to lead our city: Rob Ford.
I’ve never been really “in” to politics. I’m just a responsible and informed voter. But this election got me fired up in a way I didn’t know I could be regarding an election. It must have gotten a lot of people fired up, because Toronto saw it’s best election turnout ever. But that was still only 52%.
So this morning, all I can do is sit back and wait to see how these next four years will unfold. But I can make a plea to you. VOTE! It’s so wildly important that WE control the fate of our ward, city, country, etc. My hope is that the more educated and diverse the voters, the better the election results, and the more responsible the elected officials will become.
So now that I’ve gotten all morose / serious . . . how about a very important topic that was trending twitter last night: Morgan for Mayor! Okay okay it wasn’t a trending topic. I may have tweeted: ”This is the type of evening that makes me so deeply sad, it almost makes me feel like going into politics.” A handful of you tweeted your support, thanks
hahaha.
My tagline: ”A VOTE FOR MORGAN IS A VOTE FOR BAGELS”
Okay in totally non election related news, I shall share my dinner. Because really that’s why you read this blog, not to listen to me rant about municipal politics.
Tomato Paste Curry
Because Brad seems to have an obsession with telling me to buy tomato paste lately. I don’t remember why, and I know it wasn’t because he was expecting it in his curry. In fact I’ll only assume I’ll get a call in a couple minutes that goes something like this “you SOB I didn’t know you put tomato paste in my curry.” The man feels like he needs to be educated on every ingredient in his dinner or else he may die. In fact if ever I don’t disclose an ingredient to him ahead of time, the meal is deemed to be “a trick.”
Here’s what was in the tricky curry:
- one can of coconut milk
- one can of tomato paste
- one can of navy beans
- 1 1/2 tablespoon of Indian masala spices
- 1 green, 1 orange, 1 yellow bell pepper
- 1 jalapeno
- 1/2 cup of frozen peas
Simmer for a long time, like 30-40 minutes and then serve over brown rice.

Hi Morgan, for your curry try out Arvinda’s Curry Masala – it has a lot of flavour and one or two teaspoons usually does the trick! It’s my favourite of the line since it’s versatile in lots of different styles of curries. Hope you have a chance to try it!
Haha, you little trickster!! This look pretty delicious though. I may have to trick my man and make this for him!
But my trick would be more along the lines of: “Surprise, I actually made dinner tonight!”
I’m sitting here reading your post eating a sesame seed bagel.
Sorry to send our crappy mayor cloud your way. Last night Larry O’Brien lost his mayoral hold in Ottawa. Looks like the cloud of doom shifted towards Toronto….

I totally agree. Getting involved or voting is SO important! I’ve never missed a vote since I turned eighteen. We had a depressing city council prospect last year that prompted my husband to run in our ward and he won by a landslide! Even though politics can be frustrating and lame he really does have a hand in a lot of improvements in our city.
It makes me sick that Rob Ford won, what is wrong with the population of Toronto when they vote in a racist, homophobe. I keep very close track of politics especially because they effect my job quite a bit (The program I work for is funded by the city) let me guess what this conservative a-hole is gonna to cut first so that taxes are lowered for all those poor rich people out there hmmmmm could it be Social Services
RAHHHHH It infuriates me that in this day and age people still do not vote VOTE! you think it doesn’t make a difference but it DOES!! V.O.T.E
